Catherine M. Grant Obituary

Catherine M. “Cathy” Grant, 72, lifelong resident of Jacksonville, went to her heavenly home on March 28, 2018. Cathy received a B.A. in Education from Florida State University and two Masters degrees from The University of North Florida, one in Early Childhood Special Education and the other in Administration and Supervision, the last two all while raising a family of two boys and a husband. Cathy always wanted to be a teacher from an early age and she fulfilled her dream that lasted for 37 years. Mrs. Grant retired from Clay County as a special needs educator after serving for 34 years. Following her retirement, she became the Director for Lighthouse Learning Center, Orange Park, where she served an additional 3 years. Her passion was children and especially children with any kind of developmental needs. She was a past president of Clay County Education Association where she was the voice of all Clay County teachers. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Cathy was a vocal supporter of all athletic events that her children participated in or any other endeavors that the kids took on. She loved her church and her God and participated in many volunteer activities connected with the church. She was also in her spare time a "Red Hat Lady". She took on every project she encountered with the same passion and heart that drove her in the teaching of children. Cathy was first a mother, a wife and educator. Cathy was a die hard Seminole and will be sorely missed by her family, so many friends and colleagues. Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Mike Grant; 2 sons, Chris Grant (Joy) and Bryan Grant (Nancy); sister, Patricia Johnson and 3 grandchildren, Bryce, Bailey and Brooklyn. A celebration funeral mass will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5752 Blanding Blvd., Jacksonville with Father Mike Pendergraft officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday evening, April 2, 2018 in the chapel of the church. Father James Kaniparampic will recite a prayer service at 7 PM. Flowers will be accepted. For those who prefer, donations may be made in her name to The Lighthouse Learning Center, Orange Park, FL. Arrangements by Giddens-Reed Funeral Home, Baldwin, 904-266-2337 (www.giddensreedfh.com).
